It takes a special kind of intelligence to work in intelligence. The Security Service protects Britain against terrorism, espionage and serious crime. It's our success in gathering, studying and sharing information that plays a pivotal role in helping us achieve these goals.

Typically working with electronic information from many sources, you'll identify trends, patterns or associations in the data. The accuracy and effectiveness with which you present these results will have a major impact on investigations - so you'll really make a difference to the work of the Service. You will also help to develop our data sources, analysis tools and techniques to ensure that they remain first rate, often working as part of a project team or liaising with other organisations and government departments.

A proven analytical ability is important. Your background could lie in social research, statistics, scientific research, IT, finance, market/business analysis or a related industry. You'll need at least a year's experience using packages like Excel, Access, i2 Analysts' Notebook, SPSS, SAS or ArcView (or other GIS).

We're particularly interested in your ability to use these tools logically and creatively to develop new approaches and generate effective solutions to problems. And just as importantly, you must be comfortable working as part of a team.
