As you may know, at the moment, the Home Office operate a scheme called the Science and Engineering Graduates Scheme which allows some graduates in certain science and engineering subjects to stay in the UK for a year after their studies to work.
From 1st May 2006, the Home Office has expanded this scheme so that many more students will be able to stay in the UK for a year after their studies to work. However, this is only for students who start their course after on or after 1st May 2006. This means that students who started their course last October can only use the old scheme.
You might be able to qualify under the original scheme if:
· you have completed an undergraduate degree course (2:2 or higher), a Masters course or a PhD and
· the course qualifies for the scheme (so is a Science or Engineering Subject) and
· you intend to work in the UK
A list of eligible courses for students who began their course before May 2006 is attached to this e-mail. The Home Office has stated that this list will also apply to those who complete their studies by the end of April 2007. Your department should be able to tell you the JACS code for your course.
More information about the original scheme is available at the website below. http://www.workingintheuk.gov.uk/working_i...e_students.html
